One could almost bet that this report doesn’t lead most of the mainstream media nightly news reports.
Former Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown was just sentenced to five years in prison and three years probation for mail, wire and tax fraud involving a sham charity.
She supported a charity that was supposed to be gathering money for scholarships for poor students but actually was going to fill her pockets and those of her associates.
She supposedly used the money for personal purposes like lavish parties and trips. She also purportedly lied about it on her tax returns.
From Washington Times:
She was convicted in May after two former aides accepted plea deals in return for testifying against her.
“This was a crime born of entitlement and greed, committed to supporting a lifestyle that was beyond their means,” said Judge Timothy Corrigan, according to Nate Monroe, a reporter for the Times-Union.
Her aide and another official made a plea deal and gave Brown up, testifying against her at her trial.
From Fox News:
Earlier this year, One Door President Carla Wiley pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud after it was determined that she had deposited $800,000 into the foundation’s account over four years. Over that time, federal prosecutors say it gave one scholarship for $1,000 and that Wiley transferred herself tens of thousands of dollars.
Brown’s former chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons, and the charity’s president pleaded guilty after their federal indictments for misusing the charity’s funds and testified against Brown.
Brown tried to argue that she was unaware of what went on and that it was Simmons’ fault, but she was convicted on 18 of 22 charges.
Her argument was priceless. She blamed the corruption charges against her on racism, saying “I’m a black woman with a mouth.”
Brown had served in Congress for 25 years but lost last year after all this came to light.
Pretty despicable to use children to line your own pocket. Shows that she’s pretty morally bankrupt.
Imagine what she’s been doing in Congress for 25 years.
